Tryout information

Waco Juniors has been an repeating its success for over 20 seasons as the most competitive program in the Waco/Temple/Belton/Killeen area. We are the only program between Dallas and Austin to qualify teams for nationals and the only team to ever win a National Championship. We are a nonprofit with our own facility for the athletes to call home and provide convenient comfortable training. There is no comparison between our coaching staff's experience and other area teams. Simply put, the best train, play and coach for Waco Juniors.

 All athletes are expected to attend tryouts. If you are unable to attend tryouts please contact us at wacovolleyballclub@gmail.com  PRIOR TO THE TRYOUT DATE. Teams will be formed on the day of tryouts. All tryout fees are non-refundable and both days are encouraged for all athletes.​

For private evaluations- PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED TRY OUT DATE -due to unavoidable conflicts, please register and contact us at wacovolleyballclub@gmail.com . 

Parents, for tryouts and evaluations, you must have completed the following:

• Registered online for tryouts/private evaluations
  • Online Tryout Fee: $50 / Private Evaluation Fee: $100
• $250 Non-refundable deposit (check or MO ) brought to tryout (which will be deposited upon acceptance/ shredded if not)
• Check birth date for the correct age group
• Wear practice gear – i.e., shorts/spandex, t-shirt, socks, kneepads, volleyball/tennis shoes
• Arrive 20 minutes before the scheduled start time for check-in
• Any players younger than 12 will tryout at the 12U tryout. 
• Tryouts are closed to ALL spectators.  
• Players must tryout for their age classification listed in the chart below.
• To save time, print and fill out the Player Profile Sheet AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.

• 18 and Under: Players who were born on or after July 1st, 2005 or are high school students in the twelfth (12th) grade or below during the current academic year and are 19 years of age or younger (born on or after July 1, 2004).
  17 and Under: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2006
  16 and Under: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2007
  15 and Under: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2008
  14 and Under: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2009
  13 and Under: Players who were born on or after July 1, 20010
  12 and Under: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2011
  11 and Under: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2012
  
  Due to UIL /NCAA regulations coaches are not finalized until teams selected. 

Your $250 tryout deposit or credits are applied to the set season amount. It may be paid out in 5 installments Nov-March or a lump sum for a $100 discount. See below for pricing per age group and team.

Black Teams 

15-18 teams- $3200 7 tournaments all 2-3 day play, 2 out of state and 2 in state USAV National Tournaments, registered AAU or qualified nationals, two practice days a week and 30 minute skills clinic per week 

13-14 teams- $3000 7 tournaments all 2-3 day play, 1 out of state and 2 in state USAV National Tournaments, registered AAU or qualified nationals, two practice days a week and 30 minute skills clinic per week 

12 team- $3000 7 tournaments all 2-3 day play, 2 in state USAV National Tournament, registered AAU or qualified nationals two practice days a week and 30 minute skills clinic per week 

11 team- $2400 5 tournaments all 1-2 day play, 1 in state USAV National Tournament, two practice days a week and 30 minute skills clinic per week 

White and Red Teams 

14-17 teams-$2800 8 tournaments, 2 in state USAV National Tournaments, two practice days a week and 30 minute skills clinic per week 

12 & 13 Red- $2800 8 tournaments, 2 in state USAV National Tournaments, two practice days a week and 30 minute skills clinic per week  

Developmental Teams 

13 White, 14 Grey- $1400 consists of 5 tournaments 1-2 day play with one practice day a week and 30 minute skills clinic per week 

12's White and Grey- $1200 consists of 5 tournaments 1-2 day play with one practice day a week 

30 minute skills breakdown lead by Coach Kamol Nohe with designated team head coaches on scheduled team practice night. Players will learn foundation work with emphasis on position for improved skill set IQ and movement.

The process through which players are chosen for the various Waco Juniors teams can be very stressful. This information should clarify what will happen and how teams are chosen. We have 3-4 coaches evaluating each position This process consists of scored written evaluations and general observations of the player’s skill, volleyball IQ, technique as well as game- like situations. The coaches are also looking at a player’s prior level of play, competitiveness, coachability and personal drive. It is up to the team coaches and directors to determine how much weight is given to each skill to form the best teams possible; and the weighting may vary from year to year for the same age group. Tryout participants will be given a tryout number. This is to help identify the players when evaluating their skill and performance.

In the case of an unavoidable conflict, a private evaluations may be scheduled. Private evaluations are a one-on-one tryout with a Waco Juniors lead coach. The coach is evaluating and observing the player in the position she is trying out for. The same criteria will be evaluated. The player will find out if she has been selected for a team after the tryout for (her age group) is complete.

Evaluation

All evaluations are subjective. School coaches, coaches from different clubs, and even within the same club, may disagree on the potential of any given player. Waco Juniors gets this and generally try to seek out the opinions of their colleagues within the club when making final roster choices.

While volleyball experience and skill levels are clearly the greatest indicator of an athlete making a team. Other factors that come into play, namely attitude, work ethic, and the “coachability” are all part of the evaluation process during the tryout.

After the completion of the tryout sessions. The evaluating coaches and club directors will get together and discuss how the teams will be formed. The tryout results will be posted on the website. Selected players have 48 hours to accept their position.  Upon acceptance, the  non-refundable deposit will be processed. In extenuating circumstances, Waco Juniors reserves the right to selectively begin the process of offering chosen players as coaches make roster decisions. All offers may not be given out at the same time. This is simply because some decisions can be made easier than others. 

If you did not receive a bid and have not been offered a spot on a team, please do NOT contact Waco Juniors regarding team roster decisions. While we wish we could provide training to accept all interested athletes, the reality is we do not have the resources to do so, and thus, every year, final cuts must be made. We thank you in advance for  realistically preparing yourself and your daughter for all possible outcomes, and understanding that this is a necessary part of elite level athletics. We ask all players and parents to respect the decisions made by Waco Juniors coaches and staff, and encourage all players who do not make a team to seek out alternative volleyball opportunities and always to return the following year.
